The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
