The former Liverpool manager states rejoining to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.

Jurgen Klopp, who left Anfield in 2024, indicated that returning someday remains something that could happen. The 58-year-old, after a transformative near-decade reign which brought a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, has since taken on roles as head of global soccer for Red Bull and as an advisor with the German Football League.

Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments

The club claimed the league title in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the idea that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he explained to his interviewer: “I said I won't manage another team in England. So that means should it be the Reds...yes. In theory, it could happen.”

“At 58 years old, which suggests the choice could be mine later on, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I can just see how things unfold.”

What Would Lure Him Back?

Questioned regarding which situations must arise to draw him back to management, Klopp admitted he isn't eager to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip press conferences repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews a week.

“The locker room isn't missed per se, however, dining out with the players having a nice chat, that’s nice. We won a lot of games meaning regularly a very good mood at the club. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears as an instance.”

Praise for His Successor

He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role due to the changes that won the league last term. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in all competitions after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the idea that it might signal a decline.

“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. It’s a really good well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, things will improve.”

Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota

He shared movingly about the death of Diogo Jota, a player he signed in 2020, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The Portugal international died tragically in a vehicle collision alongside his brother this past summer.

“How do you replace a person like him? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the team environment missing him. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. It was an incredible shock for his teammates also. Not a single person will ever use it for poor performances though it's a fact. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that emotionally is challenging. Overwhelming.”
