Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:
- Every squad has just eight human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions done by real players grant full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
- Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for gamers looking for different methods to have fun with the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are mad.
Community Responses: Anger to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while another details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Community Input
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the player base compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
