Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
An important political figure stated the attack left him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
