Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by cynicism, this show's earnestness struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about observing this endearing family go about their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
