A Special Release Pokémon Card Seeks to Curb the Influence Against Resellers

To celebrate the launch of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting collaboration has been formed. Pokémon's creators alongside London's Natural History Museum will launch a temporary store stocked with special merchandise. Enthusiasts can look forward to products like stationery, plushes, and artwork that are inspired by the institution's aesthetic. The big draw, however, is a limited-edition Pikachu card, offered as a free bonus at the pop-up. The store will operate from on-site at the museum and online from January 26 to April 19.

The Book That Inspires the Partnership

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a much-awaited tome packed with stunning artwork depicting Pokémon in their natural habitats. It's essentially is what an in-world scientist might publish after trainers submit their data, alternatively what Charles Darwin could have sketched had the Galapagos were populated by Pidgeys rather than birds. Part of the charm lies in the book's scholarly approach, treating Pokémon as a legitimate scientific study. Author Yoshinari Yonehara and artist Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in ecology and behavioral science.

Why This Special Card Different

The company regularly for The Pokémon Company special edition cards celebrating big events or crossover partnerships. A lot of these promotional cards often feature the iconic mouse Pokémon who serves as the franchise mascot. What distinguishes this latest museum card however, is the unusually large size. While exact measurements were not publicly disclosed, availability is guaranteed to be highly restricted, and customers able to get only a single card per purchase.

Curbing Reseller Interest

According to an official statement, some of the merchandise may also be available beyond the museum walls. However, a wider release will only be specific stores within the United Kingdom. Importantly, fans will not be able to acquire this promo through the online Pokémon Center. While reseller interest is inevitable, it appears they're going to have trouble stockpiling large numbers on this occasion. If you're feeling left out, consider the upcoming fossil-themed display headed to the Windy City in the coming months.

"Every penny of sales made in the Museum shop and from its online store, including these items, go toward the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. That encompasses the efforts of hundreds of researchers dedicated to scientific inquiry to discover answers to the planetary emergency," the statement says.
